Area of Focus: General Orthopaedics

Take the OITE annually - it is a great way to keep updated in all areas of orthopaedics. 275 multiple-choice questions assess your ability to recall specific facts, interpret laboratory data and visual information, and solve clinical problems.

New DVD-ROM format enhances your testing experience! The OITE—now on DVD-ROM with the latest technology—offers a unique experience for practicing surgeons who want to access the latest information in 12 content areas, earn CME, or prepare for recertification.

Residents—The OITE is the perfect tool to help you prepare for the Boards. Update your knowledge on a variety of orthopaedic topic areas and practice your test-taking skills. Reinforce the information you already know and identify areas you need to study further. Once you complete the exam, you can immediately review your answers against the preferred responses.

This enhanced program features 275 multiple-choice questions—many with images, CT scans, MRIs, and video embedded, eliminating the need to flip between separate print and image books. Built-in notepad and search functions allow you to take the exam at your own pace or tackle specific topics in one sitting.

The OITE will give you the skills to:

  • Assess your knowledge pertinent to the practice of all areas of general orthopaedic surgery
  • Identify new information that is relevant to your practice
  • Direct your future studies by identifying weaknesses within particular subject areas by using the score report
  • Improve identified areas of weakness by committing to focused continuing education (CME courses, self-study, workshop, etc.)

No need to wait for CME credit:
CME is awarded immediately upon receipt of your responses, at which time you will receive a passcode to unlock your exam in review mode enabling you to see your answers compared to the preferred responses and recommended readings.

Scoring extended until April 1, 2010:
Exams will be mailed November 12, 2009. Submit your responses electronically anytime before April 1, 2010. After central scoring is completed, your score report will be posted in your AAOS personal profile so you can see your performance compared to your peers.

    CME:
Orthopaedic surgeons who participate in the central scoring are eligible for 15 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits.™ CME credit is immediately available once your answers are submitted. After April 1, 2010, you will see your score in comparison to your peers. PLEASE NOTE: Credits earned by completing the OITE do not fulfill the Scored and Recorded requirement of MOC.
